FIELD: chemistry; physics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a steel cord for reinforcing rubber embedded in a rubber article, such as a tire, and to a method for manufacturing thereof. Steel cord for rubber reinforcement contains at least one strand of steel wire with galvanic coating, wherein the steel wire comprises a Cu-Co-Zn galvanic layer and has a concentration gradient, at which the relative content of Co in the area from surface to 1/4 of the galvanic layer is 40 % or more compared to the relative content of Co in the entire area of the galvanic layer or at which the relative content of Co in the area from surface to 1/2 of the electroplating layer is 20 % or more compared to the relative content of Co in the entire area of the electroplating layer. Method of making said steel cord for reinforcing rubber involves sequential application of galvanic coating on surface of steel wire in order of Cu → Co → Zn, performing primary diffusion to provide a Co concentration gradient by exposing the steel wire to high-frequency induction heating with frequency of 1–500 MHz, performing secondary diffusion by medium-frequency induction heating with frequency of 10–500 kHz. Group of inventions is developed in subclaims.

EFFECT: improved adhesion between steel cord and rubber, as well as adhesion after aging under the effect of moist heat.
