FIELD: soil-shifting.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of restoration of disturbed lands within the Arctic and Subarctic and can be used to restore the soil and vegetation cover on coastal areas of man-made water bodies - sediment ponds, and create favourable conditions for forming an aquatic ecosystem close to natural in characteristics in said artificial ponds. The method includes the stages of flattening the slopes of the shore to 12°, and to 5° for the south-facing slopes, creating artificial soil along the sides of the sediment pond by applying a base layer of sand and fragmentary material with a ratio of 1:1 and a thickness of at least 50 cm, followed by covering with a layer of potentially fertile soils: sandy loam-medium loam with a thickness of at least 30 cm, creating a stable vegetation cover along the sides of the sediment pond by thinly underseeding seeds from the local flora, forming a coastal-aquatic and aquatic ecosystem by planting aquatic and near-aquatic vegetation from the local flora and releasing hydrobotanical floating islands with aquatic and wetland plants of the local flora attached thereon to develop benthos.

EFFECT: restoration of the ecosystem of man-made water bodies - sediment ponds, sufficient to obtain wetlands close to natural in the course of several years.
