SUBSTANCE: invention relates to environmental protection, namely, methods for determining the degree of pollution of natural and waste water with lignin substances in the area of ​​influence of pulp and paper industries, and can be used in the analysis of waste water. The method for determining the mass concentration of lignin substances in natural, waste and treated waste water of pulp and paper enterprises includes taking a water sample, measuring optical density and determining the concentration of lignin substances according to a calibration curve for a standard sample. To obtain original standard samples of enterprises isolated from spent sulfite or sulfate liquors, separation of lignin from the mother liquor is carried out by centrifugation until lignin is obtained in the form of a precipitate, and lyophilization is carried out to preserve the structural integrity of thermally unstable lignin substances.

EFFECT: achieved is a reduction in time costs, an increase in the quality of the obtained original standard samples of lignin substances, taking into account structural features, differences in technological processes and the species composition of wood, which ensures an increase in the reliability of the results of determining their concentration.
