FIELD: experimental physiology.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to experimental physiology, and it is used in study of neurophysiological mechanisms of learning and memory, spatial navigation, motor and search activity of laboratory animals. A device for testing animal behavior includes a labyrinth made in the form of an arena and consisting of outer walls and inner partitions. At the same time, the labyrinth itself is an arena with square compartments formed using fixed white and black removable partitions used as signal sources and with floor covering with color marks applied to it and used as outer signals. There is an animal passage on at least one partition, and a final compartment contains a feeder. Options of a method for the use of the specified device are also presented.

EFFECT: obtainment of an assessment of cognitive abilities of experimental animals, when they perform a refreshing search task, at which a sequence of equivalent alternative choices in different labyrinth configurations is made.
