FIELD: document protection.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protected documents (for example, banknotes), which provide significantly greater protection from the extraction of difficult-to-duplicate security elements (for example, micro-optical elements) for the manufacture of counterfeit banknotes. The claimed protected document (200) contains many layers, and many layers contain: a protective substrate (205), while the protective substrate contains the front side (209) and the reverse side (211), and a micro-optical system (305, 321) that creates an optically variable effect (OVE) (513) on the front side; protective layer (225); and a masking layer (215) containing at least a partially opaque coating layer located between the protective layer and the reverse side of the protective substrate. At the same time, the protective substrate represents the structural basis for many layers of the protected document.

EFFECT: improvement in the protection of the document from forgery.
