FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to production of powders based on single-phase high-entropy carbide composition Ti-Nb-Zr-Hf-Ta-C. The method includes mixing powders of Ti, Zr, Nb, Hf, Ta taken in an equimolar ratio in a ball mill with X-ray amorphous carbon with a particle size of not more than 5 mcm for 6-9 hours at a ratio of the mass of balls to the mass of powders (4-6):1. The resulting mixture is wrapped in graphite paper to form a package, which is placed on the bottom of the graphite cup, which is the cathode, giving it a flat uniform shape. An arc discharge of direct current is generated in the cavity of the graphite cup in air by contacting the anode in form of a solid graphite rod with the specified package at an energy flux density of 35 W/mm2, while a discharge gap is formed by removing the anode from the package during arc discharge burning for 45-60 seconds. Moreover, the package is removed from the cathode cavity after the anode and cathode have cooled to room temperature, after which it is unfolded and the finished product is collected.
EFFECT: reduction of powder production time, as well as reduction of eroded graphite impurities in the finished product.
