SUBSTANCE: invention is related to radio communication systems, which, by performing radio measurements of special transmitted radio signals from stationary and mobile transceivers, calculate the location of mobile transceivers relative to stationary ones. In the method of navigation in extended objects such as mine openings and mines, tunnels, the phase radio ranging method and the communication system are used, in which the distance R from a stationary transceiver to a mobile transceiver is determined by radio measurement of the phase difference Δϕ of transmitted and received reference signal of an electromagnetic wave, the method differs in that longitudinal conductors laid in an extended object are used as a radio signal propagation medium, and stationary and mobile transceivers excite an electromagnetic wave along these conductors, while the stationary and mobile transceivers both transmit and receive, alternating emitting and receiving a harmonic signal, constantly synchronizing in frequency and phase one of the transceivers with the other, regardless of the transmission or reception of a message.

EFFECT: obtaining information about the distance of a subscriber mobile transceiver from a stationary base transceiver along the axis of an extended object and determining the direction of movement of mobile objects in extended objects, namely mine openings and mines, transport tunnels, underground collectors, and similar technological objects.
