FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for protecting the thread of a flange connection against unscrewing and exposure to external factors using caps. The method for protecting the thread of a flange connection from external factors and unscrewing includes placing process washers on the threaded rod over the flange, screwing the fixing nut onto the threaded rod until the corresponding flanges are completely tightly compressed, followed by placing a cap made of heat-shrinkable material over the protruding end of the threaded rod. This is followed by heating the heat-shrinkable material of the cap until it completely covers the threaded end of the rod, ensuring that the heat-shrinkable material of the cap is welded to the last threaded turn of the rod. The threaded rod along its entire length is pre-coated with an anti-corrosion material with a thickness that does not interfere with the screwing of the fixing nut onto the threaded rod. The cap before heating is placed only above the end of the threaded rod protruding from the nut. The cap from the inside in the area of contact with the threaded end of the rod can be pre-coated with thermoplastic adhesive.
EFFECT: reduction in material consumption.
