FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for smelting ingots of zirconium alloys. The method for manufacturing ingots of zirconium alloys includes weighing and uniform distribution of charge components in the form of zirconium-containing and niobium-containing components in a mould, pressing briquettes, forming a consumable electrode from briquettes, and melting the ingot by vacuum remelting. As part of the zirconium-containing component of the charge, a magnesium-thermal sponge of zirconium is used, and as a niobium-containing component, a master alloy zirconium-niobium alloy with a niobium content of 10 to 65 wt. % in the form of chips with a thickness of not more than 2 mm is used, the smelting of the ingot is carried out by double vacuum remelting.

EFFECT: ingots have a uniform distribution of niobium and meet the safety criteria for cladding tubes when used in nuclear reactors.
