FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely to manufacture of the consumable electrode from sponge metal. It can be used to produce alloys of non-ferrous metals. First, the alloying element-free charge is supplied into the press mould in the amount determined by the correlation: K*D2<Mcharge<Mbriquette-K*D2, where K is correcting coefficient, K=0.01 kg/cm, D is diametre of the press mould, cm, Mcharge is the weight of the preliminary charge, kg, Mbriquette is the weight of the briquette, kg. Preforming is started with force of 15-50% of the working forming force. This is followed by first charging powders of the alloying elements, the rest of the charge, then forming is performed with the working force and the consumable electrode is then formed from the obtained briquettes.
EFFECT: no loss of the powders of alloying elements and production of chemically uniform ingots.
