FIELD: metrological tools.

SUBSTANCE: intended for measuring the depth of freezing and thawing of soil. The proposed permafrost meter consists of a horizontal handle, on which a cylinder with a cover, a window and a shock poll is rigidly fixed from above in the center. On the one part, on the handle, a two-arm lever with a fork is movably mounted on a bracket relative to the horizontal axis, and on the other part, a tape measure on a holder with a control plate. A metal tube with a needle and a conical tip is additionally attached to the bottom center under the handle. At the same time, a slider with a cylindrical spring and a fork fixed on the inner end of the two-arm lever is movably installed in the cylinder under the cover. A threaded hole is made in the center of the slider, in which the upper end of the spoke is fixed. The tape measure in the center of the holder is broken, which allows to move if necessary and keep from free movement. The proposed device allows in an unprepared place, after digging up the snow, to drive a frost-depth meter with a sledgehammer and, by the movement of the free end of the two-arm lever at the point of transition of the soil from the frozen state to the thawed state, visually determine the real depth of the location of this point and register it by the position of the tape measure. This is especially convenient when measuring shallow freezing depths, which often occurs in most regions of our country in a warming climate.

EFFECT: creation of a device for measuring the depth of freezing and thawing of soil without preliminary drilling and creation of internal cavities at the measurement points that affect the accuracy of measurements.
