SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods for generating an audio output file in MIDI format. Computer method for generating an output audio or MIDI file includes using one or more processors to perform the steps of: pre-recording blocks of content in audio or MIDI format from one or more instances of a musical performance and storing the pre-recorded blocks of content in audio or MIDI format on a storage medium; receiving an input file containing a vocal melody; defining a harmonic chord map containing the chord structure and tempo for the input file; controlling a content block selector to automatically determine at least one instrument to be included in the musical accompaniment for the input file, wherein the content block selector is configured to automatically select a subset of stored pre-recorded content blocks in audio or MIDI format for at least one instrument with harmonic support for chord structure and tempo for the input file, and generating an output audio or MIDI file by combining a subset of pre-recorded audio or MIDI content blocks and the input file, wherein the method is characterized in that the step of pre-recording audio or MIDI content blocks format contains the stages of obtaining an audio or MIDI file including content in a specific harmonic key from a musical performance; determining a specific harmonic key and adapting musical performance to suit all harmonic keys, including minor and major keys, and many different tempos; and recording said adapted musical performance in said plurality of harmonic keys and said plurality of tempos to generate blocks of content in audio or MIDI format.

EFFECT: generation of MIDI files from back catalogues and/or takes in form of sound and MIDI files.
