FIELD: gas turbine engines.
SUBSTANCE: due to data storage limitations, electronic turbine engine data acquisition systems may not be able to continuously record high speed compressor rotor speed data over the life of the gas turbine engine (100). However, high-speed compressor rotor speed data may be useful for collecting short-term rotation speed variations that may occur during operating events of the gas turbine engine (100), such as idle periods. A control system (600) for a gas turbine engine (100) is disclosed. In embodiments, the control system (600) includes a controller (610) and a high-speed logging device (660). The controller (610) receives the sensor value from the sensor (22) coupled to the gas turbine engine (100) and publishes a label that contains the event type, the sensor value, and a timestamp. The high speed logging device (660) checks the tag for an overspeed event.
EFFECT: if an overspeed event is detected, the high speed logging device (660) logs the values provided by the tag.
