SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a method and device for controlling the operation of a mechanized section of support, in particular a combined longwall mining machine. A method for controlling the operation of a mechanized section of support (30), in particular a combined longwall mining machine (10), having a shield (32) connected to a rock removal device (12) by an actuator (36) for adjusting the distance between the shield (32) and a rock removal device (12); a method comprising the steps of: determining changes in the position of the shield (32) during actuation of the actuator (36); determining changes in the stroke of the actuator (36) during its activation; detecting a malfunction of the mechanized support section (30) based on a certain change in position; detecting a malfunction of the mechanized support section (30) based on a certain change in stroke; wherein the failure condition is detected when the absolute value of the determined stroke change is greater than the first threshold value or when the absolute value of the determined position change is lower than the second threshold value. A control device (60) for control over the operation of the mechanized section of support (30) having a shield (32) connected to the rock removal device (12) by an actuator (36) to adjust the distance between the shield (32) and the rock removal device (12). Mechanized support section (30) for use in a combined longwall mining machine (10), containing a control device.
EFFECT: creation of a reliable method and monitoring device for detecting faults in a powered support section.
