FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of treating a mixture containing at least water, ethanol and acetaldehyde, by main liquid-liquid extraction and auxiliary liquid-liquid extraction. Stage of the main countercurrent liquid-liquid extraction in the method of purifying a water-alcohol mixture includes a main extraction section, into the upper part of which a water-alcohol mixture is supplied and at least one fraction of the intermediate raffinate coming out of the auxiliary extraction step, and an extracting solvent is fed into the lower part. Extract stream is obtained in the upper part, and a raffinate is obtained in the lower part. Main extraction section operates at temperature in extractor of 15–30 °C. Step of auxiliary countercurrent liquid-liquid extraction includes an auxiliary extraction section, into the upper part of which an acidic aqueous solution with pH of 0.5–5.0 is supplied, and flow of extract coming out of the main extraction step is supplied to the lower part. Extract is obtained in the upper part, and an intermediate raffinate is obtained in the lower part. Auxiliary extraction section operates at temperature of 40–80 °C.
EFFECT: higher overall yield of conversion of ethanol to butadiene with lower consumption of acid.
