FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: method involves water intake by a pump from an on-farm canal into a storage structure made in the form of a slopeless platform located near the on-farm canal and surrounded along the perimeter by a trench with an earthen embankment, formed along the outer edge of the trench from the soil extracted during its excavation, and connected to on-farm canal by pipeline with valve. Water from the on-farm canal into the storage structure before the beginning of the irrigation season is supplied through a pipeline with an open valve by gravity, filling the trench, and after its filling to the water level in the on-farm canal, the gate valve is closed and water is supplied by a mobile pump station, filling the storage structure to the required level limited by the embankment height, after which water supply is stopped, and during irrigation season water shortage in on-farm canal is compensated by gravity supply from storage structure by opening gate valve on pipeline. Storage structure consists of a slope-free site located near the on-farm canal and surrounded by a trapezoidal cross-section trench with an earthen embankment formed along the outer edge of the trench from soil extracted during its excavation. Trench has a depth equal to the depth of the on-farm canal, and a width determined by the amount of soil required for backfilling of an earthen embankment with a height of at least two meters. Trench is connected to the on-farm canal by a pipeline with a gate valve, and on the bank of the on-farm canal there is a platform for a mobile pump station.
EFFECT: use of the proposed method enables to fill the storage structure with water in spring with excess drainage and to use this water in the summer to eliminate its shortage in the on-farm canal, and the design of the storage structure provides saving operating costs due to the combination of gravity feed of water with pumping and gravity feed of water back into the canal when filling the storage structure, as well as by limiting the amount of excavation during the construction of the storage structure by excavation of soil in an amount required to form an embankment.
