SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agroforestry and can be used for reconstruction of previously created forest belts performing melioration functions in southern regions of Russia. Method of imparting an openwork structure to previously created forest shelter strips consists in the fact that excessively sparse sections of the forest strip are detected, undesirable trees are selected on these sections and trunks are wounded by ringing trunks and large branches to stimulate growth of stem shoots below the points of wounded stem. At the same time banding is carried out along the whole circumference of the main trunk and/or partially to preserve part of the crown of the tree with the possibility of forming openwork in the necessary places by selecting the height of the injury of the trunks. After appearance of stem shoots - by regulating their number.

EFFECT: use of the invention will make it possible to increase melioration efficiency of previously created forest shelter belts by creation of optimum openwork (from 15% to 35% of small through gaps along the whole longitudinal profile).
