FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry and can be used in making white light-emitting diodes, scintillation materials and medical diagnostics. A reaction mixture is prepared from taken in a stoichiometric ratio aluminium, yttrium, cerium nitrates and a mixed fuel containing urea and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA). Ammonium nitrate is added to the reaction mixture in an amount equimolar to aluminium. Then, an exothermic reaction is carried out in a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis mode by heating said reaction mixture on a laboratory electric stove with a surface temperature of 400±10 °C and the obtained product, which is a submicron luminescent powder of yttrium aluminium garnet doped with cerium (III), is milled.

EFFECT: excluding the stages of evaporation and calcination in the muffle furnace, due to which the process is simplified, the total time of which is reduced to 13 minutes.
