SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding. Decoding method includes determining, by a video decoder, whether the resolution of the current image being decoded matches the resolution of the reference images identified by the reference image list associated with the current image, enabling, by a video decoder, a bidirectional optical flow (BDOF) for the current block of the current image, when the resolution of the current image is determined to be the same as the resolution of each of the reference images, disconnection by the video decoder BDOF for the current block of the current image when the resolution of the current image is different from the resolution of any of the reference images and updating, by the video decoder, motion vectors corresponding to the current block using BDOF when BDOF is enabled for the current block.
EFFECT: improved degree of video compression with minimum losses in image quality.
