FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to functional diagnostics, and can be used for diagnosing predisposition to paradoxical embolism in children with PFO-associated stroke. A catheter is inserted into the right ulnar vein, to which a three-way stopcock with two 5 ml syringes is attached. 5 ml of 0.9% saline solution is mixed between two syringes to form a shaken suspension. Transthoracic echocardiography is performed in children with simultaneous introduction of shaken saline and when receiving a hyperechoic signal of the right heart, the child is pressed on abdomen for 10–20 s with control of the decrease in the rate of peak E on the mitral valve from 20 cm/s and more in the mode of pulse-wave Doppler ultrasonography. Further, for 3–5 cardiac cycles, microbubbles in the left chambers are observed, and if one or more microbubbles are recorded, a predisposition to paradoxical embolism is diagnosed.
EFFECT: method enables to detect the presence of a right-to-left shunt through the interatrial communication, which determines the readiness for paradoxical embolism in the systemic artery and leading to the PFO-associated pathological conditions, by reproducing the Valsalva test by pressing on abdomen for 10–20 s with the peak E rate control and the bubble test.
