SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to neurology, cardiology and ultrasound diagnostics. Method includes intravenous introduction of suspension of air microbubbles and carrying out transcranial ultrasound Dopplerography of middle cerebral arteries. If during first 20 seconds after contrast introduction appearance of microembolic signals in middle cerebral arteries is registered, mechanism of cryptogenic ischemic stroke with source in open oval foramen is diagnosed.
EFFECT: method allows to identify mechanism of ischemic stroke development.
