SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrochemical method of producing chromium (III) 2-ethylhexanoate, the method involves electrolysis of solution of 2-ethylhexanoic acid in acetonitrile in a diaphragm-free cell in the presence of a background salt and using an electrochemically "soluble" chromium anode. Disclosed method expands the range of methods for producing chromium (III) 2-ethylhexanoate, is more environmentally friendly due to the absence of hydrogen chloride formation, allows to reduce the cost of production of the end product due to reduction of the process time and reduction of energy consumption required for its flow in comparison with chemical exchange reactions, as well as simplification of the equipment used in comparison with the mechanochemical activation process.
EFFECT: possibility of high-efficiency synthesis of chromium (III) 2-ethylhexanoate of composition Cr(2-EH)3, where 2-EH is an acid residue of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, with output of up to 97% using chromium metal as a starting reagent.
