FIELD: various technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to produce material for physical protection against neutron radiation in nuclear technology and in the aerospace industry. When producing a boron-containing coating on a magnesium alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation in bipolar mode, electrolyte containing 15 g/l of sodium silicate and sodium fluoride is used. As sodium silicate, electrolyte contains sodium metasilicate pentahydrate (Na2SiO3·5H2O). Amount of sodium fluoride (NaF) is 5 g/l. Added are 5 g/l of boron powder and 0.025 g/l of anionic surfactant (C12H25SO4Na). In the anode phase, the current strength is 2 A during the whole process. In the cathode phase at the first stage the voltage is -30 V, at the second stage it changes from -30 to -10 V. Polarization frequency is 300 Hz. Duration of anode and cathode periods is 0.01 s. Duration of the whole process is 800 s at temperature of 12 °C.
EFFECT: increased radiation resistance of magnesium alloys, and, consequently, increased service life of such materials.
