FIELD: electronics. SUBSTANCE: laser rod contains activating additive together with ions of rare-earth elements, indium, nickel or cobalt in its surface layer. Method for manufacturing of said rod involves heating to 1300-1700 C on open air, heating rate within 1200-1700 C being 0.5-10 C/min. Said heating is carried out in powder of oxide of rare-earth element, indium, nickel or cobalt having particles 1-20 μm in size. Thickness of desired layer is 10 μm. EFFECT: improves resistance of laser rod against UV-irradiation. 2 cl, 2 tbl
