FIELD: plastic working of metals, in particular, production of wire from metal-ceramic tungsten. SUBSTANCE: method involves producing small bars from metal- ceramic tungsten ; determining relative electrical resistance Z_bar of bar as ratio R_bar77, 4K/R_bar293K, where R_bar77, 4K is electrical resistance of bar at liquid nitrogen temperature and R_bar293K is electrical resistance of bar at room temperature; carrying out forging and drawing with total squeezing extent of 99.0-99.5%; determining relative electrical resistance Z_wire= R_wire77, 4K/R_wire293K of wire and determining the value of ΔZ = Z_wire-Z_bar, with wire having ΔZ within the range of 0,110 ≅ ΔZ ≅ 0,0170, being selected, when drawing for final wire size is effectuated. ΔZ value allows wire cold hardening extent to be determined and, as a result , defects (stratification) in wire to be detected. Invention allows yield to be increased by up to 5%.
