FIELD: machining of metals. SUBSTANCE: milling head has spring-biased ring 14, which is positioned in movable body 4 for displacement along axis of spindle 5, and carrier 13 mounted on ring 14. Mechanism for retaining movable body 4 relative to immovable body 1 has spring-loaded conical fingers 15 with shaped slots, which are defined by two intersection oval-shaped openings 19 with intersection apex 20. Conical gingers 15 are engageable with ring 14 in receptacles 16 of movable body 4. Pins disposed on machine are engageable with shaped slots, when tool is changed. Turning of milling head is effectuated by moving milling head to tool changing position. Pins are engageable with shaped slots of conical fingers 15 to shift them along spindle axis. Fingers 15 escape from receptacles 16 and spring-biased ring 14 is moved in the same direction to bring carrier 13 into engagement with cam clutch 12. Spindle drive facilitates turning of milling head for a predetermined angle. EFFECT: simplified construction of milling head and simplified maintenance by eliminating several kinematic chains and through providing turning of milling head in automatic mode. 2 cl, 5 dwg
