FIELD: equipment for mixing highly-viscous materials used in chemical technology for preparing and finishing rubber and other polymeric mixtures after periodic rubber mixer. SUBSTANCE: worm mixer comprises a casing with loading and unloading holes, and a power-driven worm accommodated in said casing. The worm is divided into loading, unloading and mixing zones. The cross sectional area of worm thread grooves in the mixing zone changes in length. The threads on the casing walls in this zone are analogous to threads of the worm but are opposite to them in direction and in changes of the cross sectional area of thread grooves. The threads on the worm and casing walls in the mixing zone have more entries than have the loading and unloading zones. Between the mixing zone and the loading and unloading zones the worm has transition zones of identical shape and size but its depth and thread pitch change in a specific manner. While the handled material is being carried through the length of the worm, said material is plasticized and homogenized due to heavy shifting and shearing deformations and uniting of a plurality of flows from the multiple-entry thread.
