FIELD: catalytic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves treatment of a carrier - the activated porous carbon material - with gaseous hydrocarbons at 700-1200 C up to 3-50% content of pyrolytic carbon in it. Then the highly dispersed palladium is deposited on carrier, washed off and dried. The parent components were taken at amount providing 0.1-10% palladium content on carrier in catalyst. Carrier has 3-50% pyrolytic carbon and 50-97% activated porous carbon material. This catalyst decreases p-carboxybenzaldehyde content in terephthalic acid in the process of its hydrorefining.
