FIELD: microbiology, virology and microbiological engineering. SUBSTANCE: this method prescribes using nickel-containing polyvinylethanol fibers as sorbent and separating influenza virus by sorption of solely ballast proteins of virus-containing liquid by immersing 4 to 6 portions of nickel-containing polyvinylethanol fibers in virus-containing liquid, period of contact between each portion of polyvinylethanol fibers and virus-containing liquid lasting from 2 to 5 min. Polyvinylethanol fiber contains from 2 to 3 percent by mass nickel. Ratio between virus-containing liquid and sorbent is 50 to 60 : 1.
