FIELD: microwave technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves excitation of interferometer with electromagnetic radiation, measurement of first signal amplitude across output, measurement of second signal amplitude across output corresponding to same interferometer additionally unbalanced relative to first state by desired value so that additional unbalance of phase γ is not a multiple of 180 deg. measurement of third signal amplitude across output corresponding to interferometer reference side only, and determination of phase unbalance by using three results of amplitude measurement. Novelty is that interferometer is amplitude-balanced before measuring first two above-mentioned amplitudes so that upon introduction of cause of unbalance in interferometer signal amplitudes on its reference side reduced to unit amplitude on object side, when measuring two first signals, satisfies inequality , where a and b are reduced amplitudes of signals on reference side; in determining interferometer phase unbalance by measured amplitudes, its value corresponding to higher amplitude of signal on object side is omitted. EFFECT: facilitated procedure due to reduced quantity of amplitude measurements required for determining signal phase unbalance. 3 dwg
