SUBSTANCE: apparatus comprises an echo box connected to a receiver and a transmitter, a pulse generator, a reference voltage generating unit connected to a comparator, and series-connected phase modulator, selector, switch and processing and display unit. The output of the receiver is connected to one of the inputs of the comparator, the output of the pulse generator is connected to the control input of the switch, the second input of the processing and display unit is connected to the output of the selector, the third input is connected to the trigger input of the transmitter, and the output is connected to the phase modulator. The apparatus also includes front formers and a clock-pulse delay compensator. The first front former is connected between the output of the comparator and the second input of the phase modulator, the third input of which is connected through a second front former to the output of the clock-pulse delay compensator, the input of which is connected to the trigger input of the transmitter.
