METHOD OF SEPARATION OF NON-MISCIBLE FLUIDS AND DEVICE FOR ITS REALIZATION Russian patent published in 1994 - IPC

FIELD: separation of fluids. SUBSTANCE: device has sump 1, float 14, and branch pipe 8 for carrying off light phase fixedly connected to float 14. Sump 1 is provided with communicating vessel 4 and body 9 mounted in spaced relation to its walls for vertical movement. Body 9 has funnel-shaped cavity 2 forming in its base with body 9 acute edge 13. Branch pipe 8 is in the form of inlet connection pipe 15 and outlet connection pipe 16 connected to each other by flexible hose 17. Method involves feeding initial fluid to sump 1 to under funnel-shaped cavity 2, its settling and preparation of heavy phase 3 for its feeding to communicating vessel 4 and preparation of light phase 5 for its feeding to funnel-shaped cavity 2. Then body 9 is lowered to force out heavy phase to communicating vessel 4, and light phase is collected by funnel-shaped cavity 2 as it forms acute edge in its base with body 9. Body 9 is lowered down until fluid in communicating vessel 4 and middle part of cylindrical section of funnel-shaped cavity be on the same level to provide collection of light phase with maximum difference of levels in communicating vessel 4 and funnel-shaped cavity 2. During filling communicating vessel 4 fluid also rushes along space "body 9-sump 1" to lift float 14 and to set top edge of inlet connection pipe 15 connected to it by 1-5 mm higher than fluid level in sump 1. First, communicating vessel 4 is to be filled up, and after that float 14 will bring connection pipe 15 to desired position and only after that light phase reaches top edge of inlet connection pipe 15 to exclude setting heavy phase into connection pipe 15. By cone light phase fluid column rapidly increases and it is withdrawn from sump 1 via branch pipe 8. EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability. 2 cl, 3 dwg
