FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves balancing degree of burden and gas flow in top part of furnace in case of decrease of intensity of smelting with constant desired level by successive decrease of inequality of distribution of ore load relative to furnace by changing charging conditions, reduction of quantity of oxygen fed into furnace, reduction of consumption of blast air and lowering concentration of oxygen in it, reduction of gas pressure on furnace top. In this case per one percent of desired decrease of intensity of smelting with respect to blasting inequality of distribution of ore load by furnace radius is reduced by 1.7-1.9 per cent, oxygen concentration is reduced by 0.6 per cent and gas pressure on furnace top is reduced up to the level determined by the formula given in description. Consumption of natural blast gas is reduced to provide reduction of theoretical temperature of burning up to the level determined by the formula given in description.
