FIELD: geology, plotting geological earth crust cross-sections. SUBSTANCE: method based on synchronous measuring the difference in earth magnetic field with the aid of vertically spaced magnetometers involves the steps of: measuring earth magnetic field differentials on small and large bases, plotting earth magnetic field change as a function of magnetic survey altitude and determining earth magnetic field gradient at predetermined magnetic survey altitude from the obtained function. The method can be effected with the aid of a device including containers with measurement equipment, a line store with line and a line braking mechanism mounted on the aerostat truss. The device is characterized by the used of three magnetometers spaced in vertical by 0.5 km and 2-5 km. To provide the deployment of measuring complex a parachute with elastic diaphragm in the canopy central opening and holders with the pyrocutter and recommended arrangement of separate units at launch are used. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and reliability. 2 cl, 2 dwg
