FIELD: testing of diesel engines. SUBSTANCE: device comprises transmitter 1 of smoke in the exhaust, preliminary information processing unit 15, memory units 21 and 22 with random and constant selection, respectively, comparator 23, control unit 24 and diagnosing results recorder 25. Elements 20-25 may be programmed on the basis of computer or monitoring computer. The height of smoke transmitter cylinder is twice its diameter. Smoke signal is delivered from photo detector 7 to information preliminary processing unit 15 where it is corrected for temperature measured by temperature receiver 9. Processed signals corresponding to a certain point on the smoking curve are memorized in unit 21 from where they come in a certain sequence into comparator 23 where they are constantly compared with reference data stored in memory unit 22. Results of comparison come to control unit 24 which forms a conclusion about sound condition of engine or faulty functioning of a certain system.
