FIELD: optic location. SUBSTANCE: method involves sending light pulses into the atmosphere in the direction towards predetermined point "a", receiving signals of back scattering P in sending point K from point "a". The method is characterized in that light pulses are sent from point "1" in the direction towards point "a", from points m and n in the direction towards point b, points k, 1, m and n being located in the same plane as points "a" and "b". Probing lines ka and mb intersect in point "c" and probing lines la and mb intersect in point "d" and lines la and nb intersect in point f. Back scattering signals are received from points c, d and f. The ratio of back scattering coefficients β(b)/β(a) in points "a" and "b" and error δ[β(b)/β(a)] of the back scattering coefficients are calculated from expressions given in the invention description. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and reliability. 1 dwg
