FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: band from tool steel is used as a blank of the tool cutting edge. The band cross section differs from rectangular. Nonuniformly spaced chip grooves are cut on one end of the band, additional slots displaced relative to the grooves at half the lead are cut on the opposite side. The grooves and additional slots depending on the tool type and usage may be made by non-perpendicular side surfaces of the band and differently directed relative to the longitudinal axis of the band. Processing surfaces are made on one end of the band for fastening the band to a mandrel for spiral winding. The band is woven in a spiral at a minimum lead forming chip grooves and diameters of the cutting tool. The spiral is cut through the normal to the coils, the resulting rings are deformed, a spacer is mounted between the ends and the ends are welded. EFFECT: improved quality. 4 cl, 10 dwg
