FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves placement of package having two plates (slabs) 2 into ingot mold 1, mounting frame-shaped gasket 4 between plates to provide desired clearance, applying separating coating layer 4 to adjoining wide faces of slabs 2 until filling the clearance with this layer. The layer compound is prepared on the basis of metal oxides. Plates 2 are joined to form a package by means of their welding together to one another with continuous hermetically sealed seam running on narrow faces of steel plates 5 whose chemical composition is similar to chemical composition of casting steel. Coating 6 is applied to surface of package. In so doing carbon or low-alloyed steel slabs are welded together to package and ingot mold is filled with corrosion-resistant steel or alloy.
