FIELD: shipbuilding. SUBSTANCE: shipboard propeller is made in form of compact highly efficient mechanism which has drive shaft whose axis is parallel to ship's CL and blades mounted in pairs symmetrically relative to mutually perpendicular planes passing through axis of drive shaft on ends of drive shaft by means of hub provided on shaft; hub embraces shaft for its free rotation relative to end of shaft. Hub is provided with spokes. Respective blades are hinged to each spoke for swinging relative to axis perpendicular to plane passing through axes of shaft and spoke and for engagement with surface of shaft on either side of hub. Engageable surfaces of shaft are made in form of master cams of ellipsoid form in cross section. Unlike axis of cross sections of master cams on either side of hub are parallel to each other. Shipboard propeller is provided with swivel column mounted on ship's hull for turning relative to vertical axis and clutch. End of drive shaft is mounted on swivel column for free rotation and is linked with drive shaft by means of clutch. Drive shaft and its both ends are provided with members of clutch. Shipboard propeller is provided with device for locking the hub by means of spoke rigidly connected with swivel column, owing to which rotation of hub relative to longitudinal axis of drive shaft end is excluded.
