FIELD: experimental hydraulic mechanics. SUBSTANCE: device has systems for inducing and controlling salt stratification; the inducing system incorporates a salt dosing chamber of which the intake opening is in communication with a water supply line, a tank for preparing a salt solution with the help of a mixer, the tank being mounted above the maximum level of fullness of the reservoir and being in communication with the discharge opening of the salt dosing chamber, a float distributor for filling the reservoir layer-by-layer, which is connected through a flexible pipe-line, having a built-in valve for regulating a pressure of salt solution stream, to the salt solution preparation tank; the system for controlling salt stratification has a conductance pickup connected to a recorder graduated in saltiness units, and a sampling tube of which the upper end is connected through a flexible pipe to a saltiness indicator mounted on the lower end of a knife-edge pylon of wing-shaped section, which is mounted for vertical movement in hold-down bearings secured on a carriage resting on the reservoir walls, and mechanisms for its vertical movement such as an electric motor with reduction gear and rack gear.
