FIELD: automotive engineering. SUBSTANCE: engine includes first and second working chambers 1 and 2 containing working fluid and having pistons 3 and 4. Cooler 11 of working fluid has the form of a heat exchanger. Chambers 1 and 2 are communicated by additional channel 20 provided with cutoff member 21 openable only with closed valves 12 and 13. The duration of open state of the valves is shorter than the duration of the time necessary for reducing the total volume of working chambers. Heater 10 and cooler have double walls with space therebetween containing heat-accumulating intermediate heat transfer agent. EFFECT: improved design, enhanced efficiency in operation. 2 cl, 3 dwg
