FIELD: abrasive machining of materials. SUBSTANCE: workpieces are positioned between two tools and set in relative motions, applying different pressures to the workpiece-to-tool contact surface. The boundary between areas with a lower pressure is a circle passing through centers of workpieces in their middle position. The low pressure areas on one tool are made outside of said circle while on the other tool they are located outside. Different pressures are built up by installing flexible members of various stiffness in tool slots on said areas. The torque developed in the course of polishing acts on plate from the side of both tools. This turns the plate slowly around its axis thus raising the machining accuracy.
