FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: modified alkyd resins are prepared by the following manner: tall oil or its fatty acids, or their mixture with synthetic fatty acid C10-C20 are mixed with maleic anhydride at 170-180 C for 1.5-2.0 h. Then ε-caprolactam (1.1-1.3% of reaction mass) is added, and prepared product is hydrolyzed at 170-200 C for 0.5-1.0 h up to preparing product with amine number 0.60-1.15 mg HCl/g. Reesterification with a mixture of glycerol and pentaerythritol (mass ratio is 1:(1.12-1.18) is carried out at 23)-240 C up to dissolution of product in alcohol-benzene mixture. Then temperature of reaction mass is decreased up to 220 C, adipic acid (2.16-2.98% ) is loaded, kept for 1 h, then styrene is loaded (1.1-1.3%), kept at 220 C for 0.5 h, and polycondensation of prepared product with phthalic anhydride is carried out. Product is used for varnishes making. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 3 tbl
