FIELD: preparation of humates. SUBSTANCE: the process comprises treatment of brown coal with an aqueous ammonium solution, fine activation dispersion and agitation and separation of the liquid phase such as an ammonium humate solution. The novel feature of the process is that the brown coal is treated for 25-30 min at a 1:8 solid to liquid phase ratio in the presence of 8% ammonia by weight of dry coal, and the liquid phase is separated by centrifugation.
