FIELD: refrigeration engineering. SUBSTANCE: 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (134a) from trichloroethylene is prepared in two stages. The process comprises reacting trichloroethylene with hydrogen fluoride at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure in the first reaction zone to form 1,1,1,-trifluoro-2-chloroethane (133a) and reacting 1,1,1,- trifluoro-2-chloroethane with hydrogen fluoride in the second reaction zone to form 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane. A whole flow of products from the reaction zone in which 133a is formed together with the desired additional amount of hydrofluoric acid is directed to the reaction zone in which 134a is formed. The two reaction zones can be located in a single reactor. EFFECT: greater efficiency of the process. 10 cl, 1 tbl
