FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: steel additionally comprises boron, the ratio of the components being as follows (wt %): 0.38-0.45 carbon; 0.70-1.0 silicon; 0.70-1.0 manganese; 2.50-3.00 chromium; 0.40-0.7 nickel; 0.08-0.15 vanadium; 0.001-0.015 aluminium; 0.002-0.06 nitrogen; 0.005-0.003 boron; and iron the balance. The use of the steel improves operational stability of rolls by 15-20 % . EFFECT: greater depth of the active layer and improved tempering stability. 2 tbl
