FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: aromatic 1,2-diketones - 1,4-di-[2-phenylethane-1,2-dione-1-yl] benzene or 1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-dione. Reagent 1: 4,5-diphenylimidazoline-2-one or 4,5-diphenylimidazole, or 1,4-di-[5-phenylimidazoline-2-one-4-yl]benzene. Reagent 2: nitric acid. Reaction conditions: concentrated nitric acid, glacial acetic acid, at 70-80 C, at molar ratio of 4,5-diphenylimidazole, nitric acid = 0.01:(0.06-0.08). Products are used as monomers for thermostable polymers. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 3 tbl
