FIELD: track maintenance and repair. SUBSTANCE: ends of rails to be welded are arranged with overshooting relative to each other and free end of one of rail length to be welded is bent to bring the ends of rails to be welded in alignment, then metal of rail ends is heated to plasticity, rails are welded, joint is treated, unfastened section is secured on rail base, and in process of welding, rails are straightened out, thus providing compression of welded rails. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities.
