FIELD: paper converting industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves maintaining moisture content of cellulose web by regulating flow rate of cellulose mass fed onto screen of papermaking machine depending on deviation of drying line position from predetermined position; illuminating screen with cellulose web at an angle with respect to screen plane, which is less than light deflection angle on any area of screen; generating image of cellulose web by means of optoelectronic camera; determining positions of drying line by difference between luminance extent along web width in leading and tailing portions of web, with position of dry line in crosswise direction of line or position of drying line in predetermined location of screen being taken as predetermined position.
