FIELD: a pigment for paint materials. SUBSTANCE: the use of the spent iron-molybdenum catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde as a yellow green pigment for paint coatings. The spent granular iron-molybdenum catalyst is ground till 0.002-0.03% is left on a sieve having 1000 holes per sq.mm. The resulting pigment is added to the composition of varnishes and enamels. The optimum amount of pigment used is 20-40 wt % of the paint material. The coating is yellow-green. EFFECT: improved properties of the iron-molybdenum pigment.
